Items - Chapter One: Veil
These are remnants of memory, grief, and mercy — bound in silver and silence.
They were not meant to be worn. They were meant to be left behind.
But I retrieved them nonetheless.
Their purpose isn't always clear. Their power, even less so.
All I know is this: all of these items remember what was done to create them.

01
Ring of Protection
These rings were crafted in order to provide protection to the wearer.
Modelled on the blade of a sword, reaching a fine point around the shank. It served as a reminder of one's duty and inner strength.
02
The Eye Beneath
This pendant is said to house the sealed eye of a fallen Overseer — not an organ, but a memory.
There was once an attempt to see corruption rather than confront it — to observe the shadow through relics polished like still water. The Overseer who first attempted this survived the process, but never spoke again. He carried with him a circular disc of tarnished silver that bore no reflection, only a pale shimmer that seemed to move when unobserved.

Blackroot Ring
A ring carved from a root growing from a place of a one's corruption.
The reason for Blackroot growing at the site of corruption is still unknown. The roots are extremely resilient and take immense effort to cut down, to the point that those who have been successful have fashioned what they can harvest into armour and weapons.
Once a corrupted soul has been felled, the roots which have sprouted from the site of corruption lose their bark, revealing a dark crimson core. The bark is then used to craft husks, which can assist in abstaining corruption.
04
Partially-Corrupted Husk
A husk that has been partially-filled with the corruption of a shadow.
Empty husks are used when intervening in the rituals of the Church of Wax, their purpose is to contain and eventually abstain the corruption from an unsuccesful confrontation of one's shadow.
It is said that there are those who hunt for husks, often by means of slaughter mid-ritual, and adorn them in the hope to further their own corruption.

Scythe Pendant
Wearing the Scythe draws the attention of whatever watched the First Severance. Some say if you dream while wearing it, you’ll see yourself... from the other side of the cut.

06
Ring of Calamity
A signet said to have belonged to a kind and upstanding knight. His skills were mediocre however, and was often the subject of ridicule.
Desperate to make a lasting impression on the world, he struck a deal with an otherworldly being. This, however, would require a heavy sacrifice.

Corrupted Husk
Ring that belonged to an overseer of the Church of Wax.
When a congregant of the church wishes to confront their shadow, they must become the subject of a ritual. It is a perilous undertaking and can result in the explosive corruption of the subject.
If another congregant feels inclined to intervene, they may place an empty husk over the subject's finger, tranforming it into this ring and thereby abstaining the corruption.
The fate of the wearer, however, is inexorable. Eventually, all men become beasts.
